Basic network guidelines

Here’s a list of network guidelines to maximize Remote Desktop administration performance and usability.

  • If you’re using a wide-area network (WAN), make sure that the defrag bit is turned off on your network devices so packets remain intact.

  • Organize computers you’re administering into small groups, and quit the Remote Desktop app when you’re not using it. This can reduce network traffic by reducing the number of status queries.

  • Use separate computer lists for clients with different connection methods (Ethernet or Wi-Fi). If you have a group of clients with particularly slow connections, create a separate computer list for this group. A single slow connection can affect network operations.
